Regular Season Round 8: Marmatiei - Rapid 85-72

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Rapid (3-5) lost on the road to third ranked Marmatiei (6-2) 85-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Marmatiei. Rapid was better in third quarter 28-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Marmatiei had a 33-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Allan Thomas (193-90, college: Georgetown, KY) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. The other American import guard Joe Edwards (196-92, college: PFW) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Marmatiei players scored in double figures. Marmatiei's coach Emil Kosztelnik used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Mikey Hope (186, college: Adams St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and Bogdan Sandu (201-87) added 19 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Rapid. Marmatiei have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Marmatiei maintains third position with 6-2 record behind leader Voluntari. Rapid at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the sixth place with five games lost. Marmatiei will face Aurel Vlaicu Bucuresti (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Rapid's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bucuresti Agronomia Buc..
