Regular Season Round 8: Limburg - Groningen 60-105
Date: November 18, 2018
Bottom-ranked Weert is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their ninth consecutive match to second ranked Groningen (7-1) 105-60 on Sunday evening. Groningen made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by the former international point guard Sean Cunningham (188-86, college: Cal-Riverside) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American swingman Jason Dourisseau (196-83, college: Nebraska) supported him with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Five Groningen players scored in double figures. Even 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by American center Tony Washington (208, college: La Salle) did not help to save the game for Weert. Serbian guard Ivan Simic (185-97, college: NW Kansas Tech) added 13 points for the hosts. Weert's coach Radenko Varagic gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Groningen have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 7-1 record having just three points less than leader Zwolle. Loser Weert still closes the standings with nine games lost. Groningen will meet at home Leeuwarden (#6) in the next round. Weert will play against Amsterdam (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
