Regular Season Round 8: Tindastoll - IR 92-51
Date: November 22, 2018
Very predictable result when first ranked Tindastoll (7-1) rolled over 6th ranked IR (4-4) in Sauoarkrokur 92-51 on Thursday. The game without a history. Tindastoll led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Tindastoll forced 24 IR turnovers and outrebounded them 46-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. International guard Petur Birgisson (185-96) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Nigerian-American forward PJ Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Alawoya is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Tindastoll players scored in double figures. The former international center Sigurdur Thorsteinsson (204-88) replied with 15 points and 8 rebounds and guard Hakon Hjalmarsson (188-99) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for IR. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tindastoll have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record, which they share with Njardvik. IR at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Tindastoll will face bottom-ranked Breidablik (#12) in Kopavogur in the next round which should be another easy win for them. IR will play at home against the league's second-placed Njardvik (#2) and hope to win that game.
