Everything went according to plan in Kouvola where fourth ranked Kristika Turku (7-1) beat 9th ranked Korikouvot (2-6) 101-97 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 29-21 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 12-8. Kristika Turku made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Korikouvot turnovers. Power forward Mikael Aalto (205-94) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds for the winners and point guard Vesa-Pekka Laine (183-94) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Kristika Turku players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Vili Nyman (198-98) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Teemu Knihtinen (194-98) scored 28 points and 8 rebounds. Kristika Turku moved-up to second place in Division. Loser Korikouvot keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Kristika Turku will face HBA-Marsky (#4) in Helsinki in the next round. Korikouvot will play on the road against Jyvaskyla BA (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
