There was no surprise in Valencia where 8th ranked Picken Claret (4-4) was defeated by first ranked Campus Promete (8-1) 64-53 on Saturday. Picken Claret was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 20-2 charge of Campus Promete, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Picken Claret to just 2 points in fourth quarter. Campus Promete dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Picken Claret's 28. They outrebounded Picken Claret 44-29 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Jamaican power forward Vanessa Gidden (192-85, college: Hofstra, agency: ProDep Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and Serbian forward Adrijana Knezevic (183-87) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Senegalese power forward Kamara-Ndeye Thiama (193-97, agency: BeoBasket) with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Belgian Jana Raman (185-91) scored 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Campus Promete maintains first place in Group B with 8-1 record. Loser Picken Claret keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Campus Promete will face Olimpico 64 (#14) in Madrid in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Picken Claret will play on the road against Alcobendas (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
