Regular Season Round 11: Darussafaka - Maccabi T-A 71-73

A very interesting game took place in Istanbul. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 16th ranked Turkish Darussafaka (1-9) to fifteenth ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (2-8) 73-71 on Thursday evening. Darussafaka was ahead by 11 points after three quarters before a 22-9 charge of Maccabi T-A, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded Darussafaka 46-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. Maccabi T-A brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. American power forward Johnny OBryant-III (205-93, college: LSU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Tarik Black (206-91, college: Kansas) contributed with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. Five Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Nigerian center Micheal Eric (210-88, college: Temple) answered with 20 points and 6 rebounds and American point guard Toney Douglas (188-86, college: Florida St.) added 14 points and 6 assists in the effort for Darussafaka. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending Israeli champion moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Buducnost. Darussafaka lost their ninth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Maccabi T-A's next round opponent will be higher ranked Baskonia (#13) in Vitoria and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Darussafaka will play on the road against Panathinaikos in Athens and hope to win that game.
