Regular Season Round 10: Odessa - Mykolaiv 85-93

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Mykolaiv and 5th ranked Odessa had identical 4-5 record. But Odessa was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Mykolaiv 93-85 on Thursday night. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-20. But Odessa won second period 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Odessa was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Nigerian-Russian center Aleksey Adediran (201-82, college: Binghamton) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. The former international guard Sergei Popov (196-88) contributed with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Latvian Arnolds Helmanis (201-92) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Latvian point guard Marcis Vitols (186-92) added 18 points and 4 assists in the effort for Odessa. Five Mykolaiv and four Odessa players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mykolaiv (5-5) moved-up to fifth place. Odessa lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Mykolaiv will face league's leader Khimik in Yuzhny in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Odessa will play on the road against Zaporizhye (#3) in Zaporozhye and hope to win that game.
