Regular Season Round 11: Targu Jiu - Rapid 70-67

Important game to mention about took place in Rovinari. Fifth ranked Targu Jiu (7-4) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Rapid (4-7) 70-67 in the game for the fifth place. It looked good early as Rapid took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Targu Jiu had a 24-19 second period charge getting the lead and Rapid was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-70. They outrebounded Rapid 38-27 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Shawntez Patterson (201-90, college: Alabama St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import center Kevin Allen (211, college: Emporia St., agency: Haylett Sports) helped adding 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Patterson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Targu Jiu players scored in double figures. American guard Mikey Hope (186, college: Adams St.) responded with 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and Bogdan Sandu (201-87) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Newly promoted Targu Jiu maintains fifth place with 7-4 record. Rapid at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with Miercurea Ciuc and Agronomia Buc.. Targu Jiu will play against Aurel Vlaicu Bucuresti (#9) on the road in the next round. Rapid will play against Miercurea Ciuc and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
