Regular Season Round 7: Riga/LU - Helsinki Rocks 67-40

Date: December 14, 2018
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Latvian Riga/LU and 9th ranked Finnish Helsinki Rocks had identical 5-3 record. This time Riga/LU used a home court advantage and outscored the opponent from Helsinki 67-40 on Friday night. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 67-40. Riga/LU dominated on the defensive end, holding Helsinki Rocks to just 7 points in third quarter. It was a great evening for guard Roberts Berze (194-1) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points. Guard Aivars Dambis (185-0) helped adding 11 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side forward Alvar Michelsen (197-0) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and Bashkim Grepi (185-0) scored 13 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Riga/LU. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with TTU BS. Loser Helsinki Rocks keep the ninth position with four games lost. Riga/LU will face bottom-ranked Vastra (#16) in Goteborg in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Helsinki Rocks will play at home against TBV Start (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
