Regular Season Round 19: Ternopil-TNEU - Rivne 91-81

An interesting game for Ternopil-TNEU (15-3) which hosted in Ternopil their biggest opponent Rivne-OSHVSM (13-3). First ranked Ternopil-TNEU managed to get a 10-point victory 91-81. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Rivne-OSHVSM. It looked good early as Rivne-OSHVSM took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ternopil-TNEU had a 30-26 second period charge getting the lead and Rivne-OSHVSM was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-91. They outrebounded Rivne-OSHVSM 43-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ternopil-TNEU brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Rivne-OSHVSM was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Mykyta Naiko (197-92) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Maxim Nikitin (201-89) helped adding 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Ternopil-TNEU's coach Dmitry Zabirchenko allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side point guard Taras Shaniuk (179-92) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds and forward Oleksandr Shepelev (201-94) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ternopil-TNEU have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Ternopil-TNEU maintains first place with 15-3 record. Rivne-OSHVSM at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Ternopil-TNEU will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rivne-OSHVSM will play on the road against Lutsk Univ. and hopes to get back on the winning track.
