Regular Season Round 9: SBS Ostrava - Astana Tigers 55-74

Date: January 6, 2019
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Kazakhstan Astana Tigers and 13th ranked Czech SBS Ostrava had identical 1-5 record. But SBS Ostrava was not able to use a home court advantage and was rolled over by the opponent from Astana 74-55 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-55. Astana Tigers dominated on the defensive end, holding SBS Ostrava to just 4 points in third quarter. They made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Astana Tigers forced 19 SBS Ostrava turnovers. Guard Tamara Yagodkina (181-90) stepped up and scored 20 points for the winners and center Anna Vinokurova (192-92) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The best for the losing side was American swingman Chelsea Waters (185, college: Gonzaga) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and Serbian point guard Ines Corda (169-95) scored 12 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Kazakhstan champion (2-5) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Gorizont and CTO. Loser SBS Ostrava dropped to the fourteenth position with six games lost.
