Mykolaiv (#4) was upset in Cherkasy by eighth ranked Cherkasy 101-94. Mykolaiv was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 35-26 charge of Cherkasy, which allowed them to win the game. They made 28-of-35 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Brandon Young (193-91, college: DePaul) who scored 26 points and 5 assists. The other American import forward Chris Cokley (203-96, college: UAB, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Cherkasy players scored in double figures. The former international guard Sergei Popov (196-88) produced 24 points and 8 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and Canadian-Nigerian guard Keith Omoerah (194-92, college: Manitoba, agency: Interperformances) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Mykolaiv's coach Vitaliy Cherniy rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains eighth position with 3-9 record. Mykolaiv lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. Cherkasy will meet league's leader Khimik in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Mykolaiv will play against Politekhnik (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
