There was no surprise when 13th ranked Joinville (4-11) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Minas (6-10) 89-80 on Saturday. Minas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Dominique Coleman (198-88, college: Francis Marion) who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. Wesley Ferreira (201-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Felipe Vezaro (193-92, college: Texas A&M Int.) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Ahmad Starks (175-92, college: Illinois, agency: SDJ Sports) added 16 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Minas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Corinthians and Sao Jose. Joinville lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Minas will meet higher ranked Mogi (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Joinville will play against Flamengo (#5) and hope to secure a win.
