We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Arrecife where twelfth ranked Lanzarote (7-10) beat 11th ranked Pozuelo (7-10) 87-82 on Saturday. They outrebounded Pozuelo 36-22 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Victor Bermudez (193-92, college: Texas St.) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Javier Herreros (198-94) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Bermudez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Lanzarote players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Borja Lopez (187-93) who recorded 22 points and power forward Daniel Busto (203-92, college: Ohlone CC) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Pozuelo's coach Mariano Arasa let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lanzarote moved-up to eleventh place in Group B, which they share with defeated Pozuelo. Lanzarote will face higher ranked Estudio (#9) in Madrid in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pozuelo will play at home against Real Madrid II where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
