There was no surprise in Las Palmas where 5th ranked Quintanar (9-8) was defeated by first ranked Gran Canaria II (14-3) 74-61 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gran Canaria II made 12 blocks. The best player for the winners was Finnish forward Thor Bjerregard (199-95) who scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks. Polish center Aleksander Balcerowski (216-0, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria II players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian guard Brandon Tull (193-93, college: Regina) who recorded 20 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Khion Sankey (196-92, college: Lipscomb) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria II maintains first position in Group B with 14-3 record. Loser Quintanar keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Gran Canaria II will face Estudiantes B (#7) in Madrid in the next round where they are favorite. Quintanar will play at home against Liceo Frances and hope to win that game.
