No shocking result in a game when second ranked Ionikos Nikaias (12-3) defeated at home 14th ranked Marousi (5-10) 96-78 on Saturday. Strangely Marousi outrebounded Ionikos Nikaias 44-30 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Marousi was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard Fotis Vasilopoulos (187-86) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 assists. The former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) chipped in 24 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Orfeas Stasinos (183-98) who recorded 23 points and 6 rebounds and forward Giannis Papageorgopoulos (204-91) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Marousi players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ionikos Nikaias have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Iraklis. Marousi lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with ten games lost. Ionikos Nikaias will face Apollon Patras (#13) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Marousi will play against Kavala and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
