An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Manila. First ranked Filipino SM Beermen faced 4th placed Vietnamese Saigon Heat. Host SM Beermen (12-2) smashed guests from Saigon (10-7) 111-87. SM Beermen dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Saigon Heat's 16. They outrebounded Saigon Heat 48-33 including a 39-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. SM Beermen players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. American-Puerto Rican center Peter Ramos (222-85) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) contributed with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. SM Beermen's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Chris Dierker (196, college: Madonna) answered with 20 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import power forward DeAngelo Hamilton (203-90, college: Washington St.) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Saigon Heat. Five Saigon Heat players scored in double figures. SM Beermen have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 12-2 record. Saigon Heat lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with seven games lost. SM Beermen will play against league's second-placed Hong Kong ELL on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saigon Heat will play against Singapore Slingers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
