Second Stage Round 4: Rapid - Miercurea Ciuc 89-86

A very interesting game took place in Bucuresti. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Miercurea Ciuc (8-13) to fifth ranked Rapid (10-12) 89-86 in the fight for the fifth place. Miercurea Ciuc was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Strangely Miercurea Ciuc outrebounded Rapid 34-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for American guard Mikey Hope (186, college: Adams St.) who helped to win the game recording 37 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Point guard Andrei Arion (188-0) contributed with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Rapid players scored in double figures. American power forward Andre Pierce (207, college: Lee JC) replied with 26 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Djordje Simeunovic (201-96) added 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Miercurea Ciuc. Newly promoted Rapid maintains fifth position with 10-12 record. Miercurea Ciuc at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the sixth place with 13 games lost. Rapid's next round opponent will be higher ranked Targu Jiu (#4) in Rovinari and it may be quite challenging game. Miercurea Ciuc will play at home against Focsani and hope to win that game.
