Regular Season Round 40: SeaHorses - Akita NH 95-94

Fifth-ranked Akita Happinets (13-27) gave a tough game to third ranked Aishin Sea Horses (22-18) in Kariya. Aishin Sea Horses managed to secure only one-point victory 95-94. However their fans expected easier game. Aishin Sea Horses made 29-of-32 charity shots (90.6 percent) during the game. Aishin Sea Horses outrebounded Akita Happinets 32-21 including 24 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Aishin Sea Horses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Akita Happinets were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by the former international swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) who scored that evening 41 points (!!!) (made all of his fifteen free throws !!!) and the former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) supported him with 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Even 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists by American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) did not help to save the game for Akita Happinets. Point guard Shota Onodera (183-94) added 17 points for lost side. Akita Happinets' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aishin Sea Horses moved-up to second place, which they share with Kyoto Hannar. and Nagoya DD. Akita Happinets lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the fifth position with 27 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will play against Yokohama BC (#6) at home in the next round. Akita Happinets will play against Osaka Evessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
