Regular Season Round 23: Hamburg - Phoenix Hagen 64-77

The game between second ranked Hamburg (15-7) and seventh ranked Phoenix Hagen (12-9) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Hamburg was defeated by Phoenix Hagen in Hamburg 64-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hamburg. Phoenix Hagen dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Hamburg's 18. Phoenix Hagen had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swingman Jonas Grof (201-96) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominik Spohr (198-89) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Phoenix Hagen players scored in double figures. American guard Andrew Barham (198-89, college: Gonzaga) answered with 19 points and the other American import Beau Beech (206-94, college: N.Florida) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Hamburg. Hamburg's coach Mike Taylor rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Phoenix Hagen have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Hamburg at the other side keeps the second position with seven games lost. Phoenix Hagen are looking forward to face Artland Dragons (#11) in Quakenbrueck in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hamburg will play on the road against Baunach (#16) and is hoping to win this game.
