Regular Season Round 18: Kings - Taipans 89-84

There was no surprise in Sydney where 8th ranked Cairns Taipans (6-22) were defeated by third ranked Kings (18-10) 89-84. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Kings dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Cairns Taipans' 28 and made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Kings brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The former international center Andrew Bogut (213-84, college: Utah) notched a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks to lead the effort and the former international swingman Brad Newley (199-85, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Even 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Melo Trimble (190-95, college: Maryland) did not help to save the game for Cairns Taipans. New Zealand forward Robert Loe (211-91, college: St.Louis) added 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Kings and five Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Kings keep a position of league leader, which they share with United and Wildcats. Cairns Taipans at the other side stay dead last with 22 lost games.
