A1 top team - Panathinaikos (17-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Panionios (4-14) in Athens 96-71. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Panionios managed to win third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Panionios 51-26 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) who scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. The other American import power forward James Gist (206-86, college: Maryland) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Davion Berry (193-91, college: Weber St.) who recorded 14 points and 4 assists and point guard Nontas Papantoniou (190-90) added 14 points and 4 steals respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panathinaikos have an impressive 14-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-0 record. Loser Panionios dropped to the tenth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Kymis and Lavrio. Panathinaikos will meet league's second-placed Olympiacos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
