Regular Season Round 23: Gipuzkoa - Breogan 100-65

Bottom-ranked Gipuzkoa managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of two consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they outleveled fourteenth-ranked Leche Rio Breogan in San Sebastian 100-65. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 35-point difference suggests that Gipuzkoa is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Gipuzkoa. Leche Rio Breogan managed to win fourth quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gipuzkoa made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Georgian Beqa Burjanadze (201-94) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Garrett Nevels (188-92, college: Hawaii) contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Point guard Ricardo Uriz (188-80) answered with 13 points and 4 assists and Ukrainian power forward Volodymyr Herun (208-94, college: Portland) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Leche Rio Breogan. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gipuzkoa maintains eighteenth place with 5-18 record. Leche Rio Breogan lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixteenth position with 15 games lost. Gipuzkoa are looking forward to face higher ranked CB Canarias (#8) in Tenerife in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leche Rio Breogan will play at home against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
