Second Stage Round 1: Niko-Basket - Rivne 68-79

There was a minor upset when Niko-Basket (4-9) lost to Rivne-OSHVSM (10-3) in Mykolaiv 68-79 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rivne-OSHVSM. Niko-Basket was better in third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rivne-OSHVSM forced 21 Niko-Basket turnovers and outrebounded them 49-31 including a 26-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Rivne-OSHVSM looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Quite impressive performance for forward Oleksandr Shepelev (201-94) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Swingman Nazar Kisilchuk (195-97) contributed with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Rivne-OSHVSM players scored in double figures. Rivne-OSHVSM's coach Mikhail Pereverziy used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Swingman Maksym Ozhegov (190-90) answered with 25 points and the former international center Roman Gumeniuk (220-87) added 10 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks in the effort for Niko-Basket. Rivne-OSHVSM will have a break next round. Niko-Basket will play again at home against Rivne-OSHVSM (#2) and hope to win that game.
