Everything went according to plan when second ranked Hertener Loewen (21-4) defeated on the road 11th ranked Deutzer (7-18) 88-74 on Saturday. Hertener Loewen forced 19 Deutzer turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for American power forward Dijon Smith (203-89, college: Ft.Hays State) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds. Naturalized American Ryon Howard (198-84, college: Sacred Heart) contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Hertener Loewen players scored in double figures. Guard Patrick Reusch (185-93) answered with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and forward Philipp Pfeifer (196-97) added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Deutzer. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Hertener Loewen. They maintain second place in West with 21-4 record behind leader Duesseldorf. Deutzer lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. Hertener Loewen will face Grevenbroich (#6) at home in the next round. Deutzer will play against Salzkotten (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
