Regular Season Round 27: Fos-Provence - Pau-Lacq-Orthez 90-91

Sixteenth-ranked Provence Basket (8-19) used its home court advantage to challenge fourth ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (17-9) in Fos-sur-Mer on Friday. The visitors from Pau managed to secure only one-point victory 91-90. However their fans expected much easier game. American players dominated the game. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Mickey McConnell (182-89, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 assists. CJ Harris (191-91, college: Wake Forest, agency: Pensack Sports) accounted for 23 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Pau-Lacq-Orthez's coach Laurent Vila used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Jarvis Varnado (206-88, college: Mississippi St.) came up with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and Ronald Lewis (193-84, college: Ohio St., agency: Pensack Sports) added 14 points and 8 assists respectively for Provence Basket in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pau-Lacq-Orthez maintains fourth place with 17-9 record. Provence Basket lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the fifteenth position with 19 games lost. They share it with Cholet and Le Portel. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will meet at home JL Bourg (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Provence Basket will play against Chalons-Reims (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
