Regular Season Round 24: Panionios - AEK 78-74

The most important game in the last round took place in Athens between third ranked AEK (17-7) and tenth ranked Panionios (8-16) on Saturday night. AEK was defeated by Panionios in a tough game on the road 74-78. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But AEK won third quarter 22-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded AEK 46-22 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by AEK helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Davion Berry (193-91, college: Weber St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import power forward Joey Dorsey (206-83, college: Memphis) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. International Dusan Sakota (210-86) replied with 14 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Dimitris Moraitis (194-99) added 13 points in the effort for AEK. Panionios moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Aris. AEK at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. Panionios is looking forward to face higher ranked Promitheas (#6) in Patras in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. AEK will play at home against the league's second-placed Olympiacos where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
