Regular Season Round 12: Smart Belize H. - Belize City D. 83-90
Date: April 17, 2019
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Belize City: Defenders (#5) and Hurricanes (#4). Hurricanes were defeated at home 83-90 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Defenders forced 21 Hurricanes turnovers and had a 25-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Nigel Jones (201-90, college: Talladega) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and forward Farron Louriano (198-89) who added 13 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was Keith Acosta with 17 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Raheem Thurton (191) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Hurricanes players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defenders maintains fifth position with 5-7 record. Defending champion Hurricanes keep the fourth place with six games lost.
