Aztks stormed past Quetzales in the opener. Aztks dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Quetzales' 50. They outrebounded Quetzales 38-23 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Aztks looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. International point guard Daniela Pardo (165-94) fired 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field) for the winners. Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-84) chipped in 22 points and 8 rebounds. Aztks' coach A. Acosta felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Venezuelan point guard Jormelys Urbina (170-96) produced 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Cuban center Clenia Noblet (190-87) added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
