Regular Season Round 1: Yamagata - Fukushima 90-92

A very close game took place in Yamagata between Fukushima and Yamagata. Fukushima (1-1) got a very close victory on the road over Yamagata (1-1). Fukushima managed to escape with a 2-point win 92-90 in the fight for the first place. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Fukushima made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game, while Yamagata only scored eight points from the stripe. Fukushima looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Shaheed Davis (206-94, college: UCF) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) chipped in 25 points and 13 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Torian Graham (196-93, college: ASU) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Stephen Hurt (211-93, college: Kansas St.) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Fukushima will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Yamagata will play again against Fukushima and hope to win that game.
