Regular Season Round 5: Zalgiris - Lietkabelis 96-69

The game between Top Four teams took place in Kaunas. Leader host Zalgiris (4-0) smashed 3rd placed Lietkabelis (2-2) 96-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lietkabelis. It looked good early as Lietkabelis took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 26-18 second period charge getting the lead and Lietkabelis was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-96. Zalgiris forced 20 Lietkabelis turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Lietkabelis was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Zach LeDay (201-94, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Wasserman) nailed 15 points and 6 assists for the winning side and international Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) accounted for 15 points. Five Zalgiris players scored in double figures. The former international center Martynas Sajus (208-96) came up with 17 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Tomas Dimsa (198-94) added 9 points respectively for Lietkabelis in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Rytas. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Zalgiris will play against Neptunas (#4) in Klaipeda in the next round. Lietkabelis will play at home against P.Zvaigzdes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
