Regular Season Round 3: Ionikos Nikaias - PAOK 83-66

There was a minor upset when PAOK (1-2) was defeated on the road by Ionikos Nikaias (1-2) 83-66 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-66. Ionikos Nikaias dominated on the defensive end, holding PAOK to just 4 points in fourth quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84, agency: Network Sports International) who scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Jamal Jones (203-93, college: Texas A&M, agency: Network Sports International) chipped in 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Ionikos Nikaias players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Adam Smith (185-92, college: Georgia Tech) who recorded 18 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Bahamas center Zane Knowles (208-92, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Octagon Europe) added 9 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ionikos Nikaias will meet Aris (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. PAOK will play against Panathinaikos where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
