Regular Season Round 2: Mgzavrebi - TSU 76-103
Date: October 19, 2019
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: TSU (#3) and Mgzavrebi (#10). Mgzavrebi was smashed at home by 27 points 76-103 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. TSU dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Mgzavrebi's 38. They outrebounded Mgzavrebi 54-39 including 23 on the offensive glass. TSU looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard David McFarland (193-96, college: SIUE) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. International power forward Giorgi Korsantia (207-98) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four TSU players scored in double figures. American forward Taj Spencer (201, college: CBU) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and power forward Ioseb Gognadze (205-96) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Mgzavrebi. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. TSU will face Kutaisi (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Mgzavrebi will play against Batumi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
