Everything went according to plan in Kanagawa where first ranked Toshiba Thunders (7-1) beat bottom-ranked San-en NeoPhoenix (0-8) 94-87 on Wednesday. Toshiba Thunders looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by San-en NeoPhoenix's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Uruguayan power forward Mathias Calfani (204-92, agency: Pro Sports) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals and international power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who added 21 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Toshiba Thunders' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Devin Ebanks (206-89, college: WVU) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import center Jessie Govan (185-97, college: Georgetown) scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toshiba Thunders have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Loser San-en NeoPhoenix still closes the standings with eight games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face league's second-placed Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. San-en NeoPhoenix will play on the road against Ryukyu GK (#4) in Okinawa and hopes to get finally their first victory.
