Regular Season Round 8: Meralco Bolts - SM Beermen 125-99

The most important game in the last round took place in Manila between third ranked SM Beermen (5-3) and fifth ranked Meralco Bolts (5-2) on Sunday night. SM Beermen was crushed by Meralco Bolts on the road 99-125. Meralco Bolts made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Meralco Bolts outrebounded SM Beermen 53-38 including 38 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by SM Beermen's players. American power forward Allen Durham (198-88, college: Grace Bible) orchestrated the victory with a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists. Point guard Baser Amer (180-92) contributed with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Durham is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. Center June-Mar Fajardo (210-89) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) and American guard Dezmine Wells (196-92, college: Maryland) added 18 points in the effort for SM Beermen. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Meralco Bolts moved-up to third place, which they share with Ginebra Kings. Defending champion SM Beermen dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Meralco Bolts' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manila to the arena Ginebra Kings.
