There was a surprise result in Athens where thirteenth ranked AEK (2-4) smashed higher ranked Panionios (2-4) 91-61 on Saturday. The game without a history. AEK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. International forward Charis Giannopoulos (200-89, agency: Network Sports International) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Cuban forward Howard Sant-Roos (200-91) chipped in 11 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was Fotios Lampropoulos (206-83) with 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Jamaican power forward Samardo Samuels (206-89, college: Louisville) scored 14 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. AEK moved-up to ninth place, which they share with PAOK and Panionios. AEK will face higher ranked Iraklis (#7) in Thessaloniki in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
