Regular Season Round 7: Pato Basquete - Pinheiros 67-81

Bottom-ranked Pato Basquete (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-67 loss to ninth ranked Pinheiros (4-2) in on Friday evening. Pinheiros outrebounded Pato Basquete 33-22 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). His fellow American import center Chris Ware (203-89, college: Indiana Tech) helped adding 11 points and 5 rebounds. Five Pinheiros players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international point guard George-Yeye Torres (188-91) responded with 13 points, 7 assists and 5 steals and guard Luis-Gustavo de-Oliveira (190-91) scored 11 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Paulistano and Sao Paulo. Pato Basquete lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with six games lost. Pinheiros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pato Basquete will play against Botafogo F.R. (#10) in Rio de Janeiro and hopes to get finally their first victory.
