Regular Season Round 13: Toyoda Gosei - Iwate Big Bulls 69-76

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Toyoda Gosei (11-2) in Aichi on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Iwate Big Bulls (9-4) 76-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Toyoda Gosei. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. They outrebounded Toyoda Gosei 48-33 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Iwate Big Bulls made 7 blocks. Point guard Kohei Kawashima (170-98) stepped up and scored 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American Justin Herold (203-91, college: Sonoma St.) chipped in 14 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. At the losing side American forward JD Weatherspoon (198-92, college: Toledo) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import Luke Evans (203-91, college: CBU) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Iwate Big Bulls moved-up to second place, which they share with Aisin AW. Toyoda Gosei at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Iwate Big Bulls will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toyoda Gosei will play again at home against Iwate Big Bulls and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
