Regular Season Round 8: Valls Nutrion - Castelldefels 73-77

There was an upset when higher ranked Valls Nutrion (5-3) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Castelldefels (4-4) 77-73 on Saturday. Castelldefels dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Valls Nutrion's 28. Strangely Valls Nutrion outrebounded Castelldefels 47-20 including a 32-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Arnau Carreras (184-98) who scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Eric Manes (194-87) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Christian Kazadi produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds and forward Victor Vinos (193-97) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Castelldefels moved-up to eighth place in Group C-B, which they share with Salou. Loser Valls Nutrion dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Castelldefels will face Olivar (#14) in Zaragoza in the next round where they are favorite. Valls Nutrion will play on the road against the league's leader Tarragona (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
