There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked La Roda (2-7) defeated at home 9th ranked Gran Canaria II (3-6) 83-79 on Sunday. La Roda made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Gran Canaria II turnovers. Gran Canaria II was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American-Nigerian guard Deji Ibitayo (193-93, college: Akron) who scored 18 points. Croatian center Filip Krajina (209-95) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Ruben Lopez (205-2) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and Croatian center Antonio Vrankovic (213-96, college: Duke) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Five Gran Canaria II players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. La Roda moved-up to tenth place in Silver. Newly promoted Gran Canaria II keeps the ninth position with six games lost. La Roda will face higher ranked L'Hospitalet (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
