Regular Season Round 14: Hitachi SRT - Niigata A. 92-97

Leading Hitachi Sunrockers (9-3) recorded its third loss in Tokyo. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Niigata A. (5-9) 97-92. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. Niigata A. shot 24 for 40 from the free-throw line, while Hitachi Sunrockers only scored eight points from the stripe. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Hitachi Sunrockers were plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Lamont Hamilton (208-84, college: St.John's) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward Nick Perkins (203-96, college: Buffalo) supported him with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds by Spanish forward Sebastian Saiz (205-94, college: Ole Miss) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Sunrockers. International point guard Leo Vendrame (183-93) added 17 points and 4 assists for the hosts. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Niigata A. maintains third position with 5-9 record having six points less than leader Tochigi B., which they share with Shiga L-Stars and Shimane SM. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with Alvark T.. Niigata A. will play against league's leader Tochigi B. at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against Kyoto H. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
