The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Rockets as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Rockets defeated 5th ranked Pelicans in Houston 122-116. James Harden (196-89, college: ASU) stepped up and scored 39 points (!!!) and 9 assists for the winners and point guard Russell Westbrook (190-88, college: UCLA) chipped in 26 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was point guard Jrue Holiday (193-90, college: UCLA) with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists and forward Derrick Favors (208-91, college: Georgia Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Five Rockets and four Pelicans players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
