Regular Season Round 9: Calpe - Gandia 78-84

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Calpe (3-4) lost at home to second ranked Gandia (7-1) 84-78 on Saturday. Gandia made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. It was a good game for naturalized American center Shalawn Miller (205-74, college: UMass Lowell) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Point guard Joaquin Rodenas (186-90) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Gandia's coach Victor Rubio allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Fabio Astilleros (195-94) answered with 21 points and Bruno Richotti added 9 points and 6 assists in the effort for Calpe. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Gandia. They maintain second place in Group E-B with 7-1 record behind leader Tarragona. Calpe lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Gandia will face league's leader Alginet at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Calpe will play against Cartagena (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
