Regular Season Round 8: Haukar - Keflavik 86-70

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Keflavik (6-2) in Hafnarfjordur on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Haukar (5-3) 86-70. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. Keflavik managed to win third quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Keflavik's 20 and made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Keflavik 48-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Keflavik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international guard Kari Jonsson (190-97, college: Drexel) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. American forward Flenard Whitfield (201-90, college: W.Michigan) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Hordur Vilhjalmsson (194-88) replied with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and British forward Deane Williams (203-96, college: Augusta, agency: Interperformances) added 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Keflavik. Four Haukar and five Keflavik players scored in double figures. Haukar moved-up to fourth place, which they share with KR and IR. Keflavik at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Tindastoll and Stjarnan. Haukar is looking forward to face Njardvik (#7) on the road in the next round. Keflavik will play against Fjolnir (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
