Regular Season Round 7: Kutaisi - Mgzavrebi 87-77

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Mgzavrebi (1-6) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Kutaisi (3-3) 87-77. The game was mostly controlled by Kutaisi. Mgzavrebi was better in third quarter 27-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Kutaisi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard James Milliken (191-93, college: Creighton) who led the winners and scored 31 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international power forward Beka Bekauri (209-91) accounted for 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winning side. Kutaisi's coach Kote Tugushi allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Taj Spencer (201-93, college: CBU) came up with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and the other American import point guard Darell Combs (188-93, college: IUPUI) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Mgzavrebi in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kutaisi moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Mgzavrebi lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Kutaisi's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Dinamo Tbilisi on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
