Regular Season Round 7: AEL - Apollon 74-83

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Limassol: Apollon (#3) and AEL (#6). AEL was defeated at home 74-83 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-15. But AEL won third quarter 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Stefanos Iliadis (185-94, college: S.Florida) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 assists. American guard Liam OReilly (188-96, college: Gardner-Webb) helped adding 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Lithuanian guard Dovydas Redikas (193-92) responded with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and American power forward KenDarrius Hamilton (206-96, college: Tennessee St.) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Apollon (5-1) moved-up to second place, which they share with AEK Larnaca. AEL lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Omonia and APOP. Apollon is looking forward to face league's leader Keravnos in Strovolos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AEL will play on the road against E.N. Paralimni (#4) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
