Regular Season Round 16: Alvark T. - Hitachi SRT 85-67
Date: November 24, 2019
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tokyo: Toyota Alvark (#2) and Hitachi Sunrockers (#3). Toyota Alvark (12-4) smashed visiting Hitachi Sunrockers (12-4) by 18 points 85-67. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 39-21 including a 32-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toyota Alvark looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Toyota Alvark made 7 blocks. The winners were led by American center Alex Kirk (211-91, college: N.Mexico, agency: Pensack Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Kevin Jones (206-89, college: WVU) supported him with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Even 23 points and 6 rebounds by Spanish forward Sebastian Saiz (205-94, college: Ole Miss) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Sunrockers. American Ryan Kelly (211-91, college: Duke) added 15 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyota Alvark have an impressive ten-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Hitachi SRT and Tochigi B. Toyota Alvark will meet Akita Happinets (#4) on the road in the next round. Hitachi Sunrockers will have a break next round.
