Regular Season Round 8: CSKA - Slavia 49-90

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sofia: Slavia (#4) and CSKA (#6). CSKA was smashed at home by 41 points 49-90 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Slavia dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to CSKA's 26. They outrebounded CSKA 41-24 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Ivan Tilev (204-79) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and guard Damyan Stoyanov (194-93, college: Maryville, MO) who added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Five Slavia players scored in double figures. Point guard Viktor Margaritov (185-2) responded with 19 points and forward Nikolay Stefanov (192-99) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Slavia (3-3) moved-up to third place. CSKA lost sixth consecutive game. CSKA at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Slavia are looking forward to face Vidabasket (#5) in Vidin in the next round. CSKA will play on the road against Rilski 2 in Samokov and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
