There was a minor upset in Saporro where their close opponent San-en NeoPhoenix (1-17) was rolled over by sixth ranked Hokkaido L. (9-9) 78-55 on Sunday. Hokkaido L. dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to San-en NeoPhoenix's 22. The best player for the winners was American forward Kennedy Meeks (208-95, college: UNC) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The other American import Markeith Cummings (198-88, college: Kennesaw St.) chipped in 18 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Mickell Gladness (211-86) who recorded 11 points and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Takanobu Nishikawa (195-92) added 11 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hokkaido L. moved-up to third place, which they share with Nagoya DD. Loser San-en NeoPhoenix keeps the sixth position with 17 games lost. Hokkaido L. will face Chiba J. (#4) on the road in the next round. San-en NeoPhoenix will play against Aishin Sea Horses and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
