Regular Season Round 12: Khimik-2 - Rivne 81-82 OT

Khimik-2 (#3) forced the game against Rivne (#2) into an overtime, but lost by one point 81-82 on Sunday night. The game took place in Yuzhny. But the guests from Rivne were better at the end. Khimik-2 was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 18-12 charge of Rivne, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 12-11. Rivne outrebounded Khimik-2 44-32 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Khimik-2 was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for forward Yevgen Koroviyakov (199-88) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Oleksandr Shepelev (201-94) contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Rivne's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Point guard Oleksandr Kovliar (180-2) replied with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals and swingman Vitaliy Shorstkiy (194-0) added 14 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Khimik-2. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rivne (9-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with KDPU. Khimik-2 at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. Rivne will face league's leader Ternopil-TNEU on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Khimik-2 will play against Politekhn.Lvov in Lviv and hope to win that game.
